Ground Up Innovations (GUI) is a small consultancy specialized in providing engineering design and prototyping services for hardware start-ups in the Greater Boston area.  We work on robotics, automation, test systems, and even tech that goes into space!  GUI is a rapidly growing startup itself, founded in 2020.  We are seeking a skilled and motivated engineer to own a portion of the product development projects in our growing portfolio.
Reporting to the Founder and Principal Engineer, the Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for all phases of a development project, including research, design, prototyping, testing, documentation, and occasionally installations at  customer sites.  They will also have the opportunity to contribute to business development and operations at GUI.
This position will be approximately 50% remote (research and design) and 50% in person (fabrication at GUI workshop and client visits/installations)

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, mechatronics, robotics, or similar engineering discipline
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience, with direct involvement designing and building complex hardware projects
  • Appetite to work hard, learn, have fun, and innovate every day
Must be able to demonstrate the ability to:
  • Efficiently design and draft in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) following drafting best practices
  • Work safely and effectively in a workshop, using power tools and fabrication equipment
  • Communicate ideas, concepts, and challenges in a professional manner (both written and verbal )
  • Think a few steps ahead, and bring solutions to the table
  • Quickly learn new skills and apply them
  • Deliver on time, while working on multiple concurrent projects
Bonus Skills and Experience:
  • Electrical aptitude including reading schematics, wiring, and debugging
  • Experience working at  a start-up technology company
  • Experience with or interest in  the following software packages and languages:
    • Programming languages (Python, VBA, etc…)
    • Data acquisition hardware/software (LabView, etc…)
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for how businesses are run and how to make improvements to a growing organization.
